Salt & Pepper: An Introduction

If we had codenames, we would be Salt and Pepper. I don’t think we would have any debate about this. We just know that this would be true. Maybe if I become a top secret agent or spy someday, I can have Salt be my codename.

When Nef and I met for the first time over Skype, I was glad to hear that she liked to cook. I like food. But cooking? I’d prefer to have food be magically ready whenever I want it and not have to deal with the whole process of cooking.

Now that we’re living together in Panama, I’ve gotten more used to cooking. Whereas I pretty much never made my own dinner in the US (I handled most of my breakfasts and lunches), I’m having to help with the making of my dinner almost every night! Thankfully, I’m not doing it alone. I am Sou-Chef Salt to Chef Pepper. I’ve tried to tell her to assume I know how to do nothing in the kitchen, but she hates to make assumptions of people, so she tends to give me the benefit of the doubt that I know what I’m doing. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I do something wrong that probably is contained in the Book of Common Kitchen Sense and Nef just gives me a look and we laugh.

I use use more salt on my food, Nef uses more pepper. It’s as simple as that. We may love some of the same meals, and we like to eat pretty healthily, but we season things differently. Nosotras estamos hermanas, pero, same household doesn’t mean same people. From pesto to sugar cookies, WE’RE doing to cooking here in Panama. Taking control of our lives, one independent meal at a time.

I’m a foodie who likes to cook, but LOVES to bake. I season with pepper but my heart belongs to sugar. I love sweets but I also like to be on the healthy side which is why fruit is definitely my go to food and favorite food group. I like making my own food, it gives me freedom to create master pieces and add a personal twist on classics. Some people think cooking is a science I look at it as an art. Short and sweet with a kick.
